Geotechnical

Geotechnical engineering is not only useful in civil engineering, but also in the military, mining, petroleum, coastal engineering, and offshore building. While geotechnical engineering and engineering geology have some common ground, they are both distinct subfields within their respective disciplines. Soil mechanics and rock mechanics both rely on the same underlying ideas, but their applications are distinct.
